Inside Gemstones in a series of paintings about music, sound and silence.
The imagery is inspired by audio wave forms and harmonics and imagining what music looks like in the air.
The impetus behind the series was a long visit in the Hall of Gems at the American Museum of Natural History.
The room is irregularly shaped, with steps and ramps which are carpeted, as well as the walls, all sound and movement is muffled. It’s a timeless space.
Looking in to the stones, which are so still, revealed to me a symphony of silent sound — so much energy and movement! Which is what these paintings depict.
